Team ratings update April 08

premier league ratings updateIt’s been a while since I discussed the Premier League Team ratings on the blog. With recent changes to the algorithm I thought i’d record the current team points which you can see in the table below.

The variance versus the teams’ Premier League position is a measure of how well each team is playing compared to their position; i.e. how many points they’re earning in the league.

Differences of note are Fulham, Bolton and Tottenham who are rated by the algorithm much higher than their league ranking. This would suggest that good play is not turning into goals. Teams whose rating is lagging far behind their league position are Everton and West Ham. It’s a bit harsh to say these teams are lucky to be in the league position they are. A better explanation is that the chances they are getting in front of goal are being put away.
